The Arapahoe County coroner has identified 37-year-old Kilyn Lewis as the man shot and killed by Aurora police in an apartment complex near Expo Park. The Arapahoe County Coroner Identifies Victim in Aurora Police Shooting

The Arapahoe County coroner has officially identified the man who was shot and killed by Aurora police in an apartment complex near Expo Park. The victim has been named as 37-year-old Kilyn Lewis.

According to reports, Lewis was suspected of being involved in an attempted homicide in Denver when the Aurora police SWAT team approached him in the complex on South Ironton Street. The incident took place on May 23, and Lewis was exiting a car at the apartment complex when he was confronted by the police.

During the interaction, an officer fired a shot at Lewis, who was then taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, Lewis succumbed to his injuries and passed away from a single gunshot wound. The death has been classified as a homicide by the Arapahoe County coroner. It has not been confirmed whether Lewis was armed at the time of the altercation.

Officer Involved Identified

The officer responsible for shooting Lewis has been identified as Officer Michael Dieck. Officer Dieck has been a part of the Aurora Police Department for 12 years. Following the incident, he has been placed on paid leave while the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office conducts an investigation to determine if any criminal charges should be filed. Additionally, the Aurora Police Department is looking into whether Officer Dieck violated any department policies or procedures during the encounter.
