Colorado Springs, located in the beautiful state of Colorado, was the site of a tragic incident recently. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has just released its findings after a wrong-way crash on I-25 last weekend. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, around 4:45 a.m., when police received a call about a car traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. This ultimately led to a head-on collision.
Following the crash, a Good Samaritan named Joel Montalvo, aged 64, got out of his vehicle to help. However, as Montalvo was crossing the interstate to assist, he was tragically hit by another vehicle traveling northbound. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered that one of the drivers and Montalvo had lost their lives. The second driver was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries shortly after.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has since identified the three individuals who tragically lost their lives in the crash. Darlisse Rivera-Albino, aged 37, was identified as the wrong-way driver, while 46-year-old Heidi Jackson was identified as the other driver involved in the collision. The authorities are still investigating the crash, with drugs and/or alcohol being considered as potential factors.

The CSPD revealed that this incident marked the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd traffic-related deaths in Colorado Springs this year. They noted that there were 19 traffic fatalities recorded at the same time last year, highlighting the concerning increase in road accidents in the area.
