OMAHA — Two suspects have been apprehended following a series of events that culminated in two officer-involved shootings in eastern Nebraska. The incident unfolded at a residence in the 6200 block of S. 30th Street in Omaha, a bustling city known for its rich history and vibrant cultural scene.

The events began on Thursday evening around 8:15 p.m. when Nebraska State Patrol troopers were conducting follow-up investigations at the aforementioned residence. Their target was a wanted individual named Jason Davenport, 42, who was believed to be inside the premises. Dana Banks, a 40-year-old female occupant of the residence, confirmed Davenport’s presence. Davenport had an outstanding arrest warrant from Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Initially refusing to comply with law enforcement, Davenport eventually emerged from the rear of the residence at around 8:56 p.m. and fired two rounds from a handgun. He then attempted to abscond with an unoccupied NSP cruiser but was thwarted by security measures within the vehicle. Troopers and officers responded by firing their service weapons as Davenport tried to access a locked rifle inside the cruiser, which was equipped with an anti-theft system.

Subsequently, a grey Ford Fusion arrived at the scene, with Banks exiting the vehicle and approaching Davenport. Using Banks as a shield, Davenport attempted to enter the Ford Fusion. However, Banks voluntarily entered the passenger side of the car, prompting Davenport to flee through Upland Park. Despite efforts by troopers and officers to pursue the vehicle, visual contact was lost as it sped through the park.

A comprehensive search ensued, with support from OPD and NSP helicopters. After two hours, law enforcement concluded that the suspects had left the area, prompting an officer safety alert to be issued to authorities in Nebraska and Iowa.

As the night progressed, information surfaced suggesting that Davenport and Banks were travelling in a stolen vehicle in Washington County. In the early hours of Friday, a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy located a suspected stolen Kia Soul. A pursuit ensued after the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, during which Davenport and Banks abandoned the car and sought refuge inside a semi cab in a large shop building near Kennard.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the NSP SWAT team, converged on the scene. Despite repeated commands for surrender, Davenport, armed with a firearm, refused to comply and aimed the weapon at officers. Troopers were compelled to open fire, resulting in Banks surrendering and sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Davenport remained inside the vehicle.

Specialized equipment, such as the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office’s Rook vehicle, was deployed to access the semi cab. Following Davenport’s apprehension using an NSP K9 unit, he too was transported to a medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges for both individuals are pending in Douglas and Washington Counties.

The Nebraska State Patrol has delegated the investigation of the officer-involved shootings to the Omaha Police Department and its Special Investigations Team. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incidents, and those who discharged their weapons have been placed on administrative leave as per NSP protocol.

The investigation remains ongoing, with NSP expressing gratitude to the Omaha Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office for their collaborative efforts.
