A father and stepmother in Davie County are facing charges after reporting a ten-year-old missing, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Arlene Cruz reported the child missing last month after a custody hearing the next day. After an extensive search, investigators found the girl at a home of Cruz’s friend Angie Amador in Winston-Salem. Both women, along with the child’s father, Eduardo Avila, are now facing charges related to the incident.

Davie County Sheriff’s Office: three people arrested in connection to missing juvenile case

Three individuals are now facing charges following the report of a missing juvenile in the Triad area, as stated by deputies with the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. On 29th April, around 1:50 p.m., Arlene Cruz reported her ten-year-old stepdaughter as a runaway to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. The initial report raised concerns about suicide.

Additional resources were dispatched to assist in the search for the missing juvenile, with the DSCO’s K9 Unit and a unit from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responding. Other law enforcement agencies in the area, such as the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office and Winston-Salem Police Department, also checked potential locations where the juvenile might have been.

Detectives initiated an investigation at the home, executing several search warrants based on the circumstances and information provided by the juvenile’s stepmother. As the search continued over 29th and 30th April, detectives explored various possibilities for the juvenile’s disappearance.

On the evening of 30th April, the juvenile was located at a residence on Sentry Point Lane in Winston-Salem, owned by Angie Amador, a friend of the juvenile’s stepmother. According to Amador, an unknown female juvenile arrived at her doorstep.

Investigations revealed that the juvenile went missing shortly after a custody hearing in Davie County Court. Following the court proceedings, the juvenile was taken to her father’s residence in Mocksville before being transported to Amador’s home through a ride-share service.

The search efforts for the juvenile incurred costs amounting to $86,684.98 for Davie County. Subsequently, on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m., the juvenile’s father, Eduardo Avila-Garcia, along with Cruz and Amador, were arrested.

Avila-Garcia faces charges of felony abduction of children, felony conspiracy for abduction of children, and felony obstruction of justice. Cruz, on the other hand, has been charged with felony abduction of children, felony child abuse, felony false report involving a child disappearance, felony conspiracy for the abduction of children, and felony obstruction of justice. Amador also faces charges of felony abduction of children, felony child abuse, felony conspiracy for abduction of children, and felony obstruction of justice.

Each of the individuals was granted a secured bond of $75,000. While Avila-Garcia and Cruz remain in custody at The Davie County Detention Center, Amador was able to post bond and was released on Wednesday.
