**Gas Explosion Tragedy in Madhya Badda, Dhaka**

A devastating gas explosion rocked a residential area in Madhya Badda, Dhaka, early Thursday morning, resulting in the tragic death of a young man and leaving a woman severely injured. The incident, believed to have been caused by a gas leak, occurred at around 6:30 am on the ground floor of a three-storey house owned by Khokon Daroga, located on DIT 4 Road.

**Victims identified**

The deceased has been identified as Solaiman, a 30-year-old man from Palashtali village in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh. Solaiman worked at the Badda Kebab restaurant, located opposite to the site of the explosion. The injured woman, Shanta Begum, 27, hails from Belabo upazila in Narsingdi and works at a local garment shop. She has been admitted to the ICU of Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute with 35 percent burns on her body.

**Emergency Response**

Senior Station Officer Syed Monirul Islam of Baridhara Station of Fire Service reported that the explosion was brought to their attention at 6:43 am. Upon reaching the scene, the emergency responders found significant damage on the ground floor and recovered Solaiman’s body from the road in front of the house. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is currently underway.

Preliminary investigations by the fire service suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by a gas leak from the Titus gas line in the kitchen or an accumulation of toxic gas from the sewerage line in front of the house. **Eyewitness Account**

Nasir Howladar, Shanta’s husband, described the chaotic morning when the explosion occurred. He had left for work around 5:00 am, leaving Shanta still asleep at home. Upon receiving news of the explosion, Nasir rushed back to find his wife severely burnt and lying in front of their house. He immediately transported her to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute for urgent medical attention.

Nasir recalled smelling gas the night before the explosion, possibly originating from their kitchen or from the ongoing roadwork outside their house. Gas leaks can be extremely dangerous and should be addressed promptly to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring.
