Customs Department Files FIR for Gold Smuggling at IGI Airport

Detention of Congress Leader’s Aide

Varun Koundinya, Joint Commissioner of Customs at IGI Airport, mentioned that the circumstances of acquiring an Aerodrome Entry permit as part of the protocol team for a Member of Parliament are being investigated. The involvement of another individual who was aiding in the smuggling operation was also uncovered during the investigation.

Recovery of Smuggled Gold

During the interception, a heavy gold chain weighing 500 grams was recovered from the accomplice who had come to receive the passenger. The total value of the seized gold was estimated to be Rs 35.22 lakh, which has been confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962. The Customs Department is currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
