Tragic bus accident at TungiMorh claims 22 lives

JAMMU, 30th May: In a devastating turn of events, a bus carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana met with a tragic accident at TungiMorh near the Kalidhar area of Akhnoor on Thursday afternoon. The overloaded bus, en route from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh to Shiv Khori in Reasi district, veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, resulting in the loss of 22 lives and leaving 69 others injured.

The ill-fated bus, which was carrying a total of 91 passengers, including men, women, and children, fell approximately 200 meters into the gorge. The accident, which took place around 1:30 pm, prompted a swift response from the police, army personnel, and local residents who quickly initiated rescue operations. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Identification of victims

Among the deceased were eight males, eight females, and six children. The victims hailed from Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, Rajasthan, and other areas of Uttar Pradesh. The impact of the accident was so severe that 22 passengers lost their lives on the spot, leaving their families and fellow passengers in a state of shock and grief.

Injuries and medical treatment

Of the 69 injured individuals, 29 were females, 23 were males, and 17 were children. While 12 of the injured are currently being treated at the Akhnoor hospital and are reported to be in stable condition, 57 others were transferred to GMC-Jammu for advanced medical care. Additionally, two critically injured patients are receiving treatment in the ICU at GMC-Jammu, while 50 others are in stable condition and eight are under observation.

Official response and investigation

Despite repeated attempts to contact traffic police officials for comment on the overloading of the bus, no response was received. District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the cause of the accident and has requested a detailed report to be submitted within 7 days. The district administration is closely monitoring the treatment of the injured and is in communication with the authorities in Hathras and Aligarh, the native places of the passengers involved in the tragic incident.
