An 18-month-old baby boy tragically lost his life in a car accident on Wednesday, May 30, 2024, when the vehicle driven by his father collided with a truck on the Brittania Public Road, West Coast Berbice. The baby, identified as Karson Mayers from Belmont East Coast Demerara, was a passenger in the car along with Monique Richmond. The accident occurred when the father, Kishawn Mayers, allegedly lost control while negotiating a right turn and crashed into the truck owned by John Fernandes Limited. Despite both drivers having alcohol in their system, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Kaieteur News – Tragedy struck on Wednesday afternoon when an 18-month-old baby boy lost his life in a horrific car accident. The incident occurred at approximately 13:45 hrs along the Brittania Public Road in West Coast Berbice.

The young victim, identified as Karson Mayers from Belmont, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was a passenger in the vehicle driven by his father, Kishawn Mayers, 30, along with Monique Richmond.

Reports from the police indicate that the senior Mayers collided with a truck owned by John Fernandes Limited. The truck was travelling eastbound, while the car was heading in the opposite direction.

It is alleged that the senior Mayers was speeding and lost control while attempting a right turn, leading to the devastating collision with the truck.

All individuals involved in the accident were rushed to Fort Wellington Hospital. Unfortunately, Karson Mayers was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Monique Richmond was admitted for further observation.

Subsequent breathalyzer tests conducted on both senior Mayers and the truck driver revealed traces of alcohol in their systems, although below the legal limit.

The authorities are currently conducting thorough investigations into the tragic incident to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal crash.
