Lyft Driver Sues Company After Terrifying Incident in Houston

Imagine going about your day, trying to make ends meet by working a side job as a Lyft driver, only to be sexually assaulted and held at gunpoint by a passenger. This nightmare became a reality for a wife and mother of four in Houston, Texas, who is now taking legal action against Lyft for failing to protect her.

The Terrifying Ordeal

The victim, identified as J.W., shared her harrowing experience of being held at gunpoint and sexually assaulted by a passenger, 19-year-old Kenneth Kelley. As she drove him to his destination, Kelley pulled out a gun, threatened her, and forced her to continue driving while making lewd and threatening remarks.

According to the lawsuit, Kelley was part of a robbery ring that targeted rideshare drivers in the Houston area, with a total of 19 robberies linked to him and five other young men. These crimes involved drivers being held at gunpoint, forced to withdraw money, and in some cases, sexually assaulted.

Attorneys at Blizzard Greenberg are representing J.W. in her lawsuit against Lyft and Kelley. The victim alleges that Lyft did not have proper safety measures in place to protect drivers like her.
