The Sumter Police Department has arrested Curtis Jefferson Jr., 19, from Mayesville, on charges of murder and attempted murder following a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of a driver and the injury of a passenger. The incident took place at the intersection of Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive. The driver, Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, 32, was fatally shot and the passenger, a 28-year-old, sustained a gunshot wound but is now recovering at home. Jefferson was apprehended and is currently in custody at the county detention center. Authorities are also seeking a juvenile involved in the shooting. The suspect, Curtis Jefferson Jr., 19, of Mayesville, has been charged with murder and attempted murder following the fatal shooting of a driver and injury of a passenger.
Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded on Monday morning when officers responded to a shots-fired call at the Green Swamp Road/South Guignard Drive intersection. Upon arrival, they discovered a crashed vehicle in the vicinity. The driver, Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, 32, of Blanche Road, was found to have been struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene. His 28-year-old passenger, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is currently recovering at home.
Sequence of Events
According to information obtained by the police, McFadden’s vehicle was stationary at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan pulled up alongside. Gunshots were fired from the sedan before it sped away in the direction of South Guignard Drive, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
Suspect in Custody
Curtis Jefferson Jr. was apprehended by authorities on Wednesday morning and is currently being held at the county detention center. In addition to Jefferson, officers have identified a juvenile accomplice involved in the shooting and are actively seeking their whereabouts.
