While performing routine tank cleaning, Sreenivasan and two other employees inhaled poisonous hydrogen sulfide gas, causing them to fall unconscious. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sreenivasan did not survive. His wife Narmada and children Mahasree and Sreenisha were with him in Singapore, planning to travel to Malaysia for a holiday. The victim, identified as Sreenivasan Sivaraman, was a 40-year-old cleaning operations manager at Supersonic Maintenance Services in Singapore. The incident occurred on May 23, when Sreenivasan and two other employees were cleaning the water reservoir at the Choa Chu Kang Waterworks. Unfortunately, during the cleaning process, they unknowingly inhaled hydrogen sulfide gas, a highly toxic substance that is colorless and has a distinctive smell of rotten eggs. As a result, all three individuals fell unconscious and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Tragically, Sreenivasan did not survive the incident and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The two Malaysian employees who were also affected by the toxic gas are said to be in critical condition.
Sreenivasan leaves behind his wife Narmada and their two children, Mahasree and Sreenisha. The family had recently arrived in Singapore on May 2 and had plans to travel to Malaysia for a holiday on May 27. However, their plans were abruptly changed due to the unforeseen tragedy.
