According to Shivaji Mandle, the on-duty officer of Tasgaon Police Station, the crash occurred around 1.30 a.m. when the speeding Alto car veered off the road and crashed into the Tasari Canal. The impact of the crash was severe, with the car plummeting around 10 metres below the road level, crushing the front portion of the vehicle.

The family was returning to Tasgaon from Kavathe-Mahankal after celebrating the birthday of one of the daughters, who was among the deceased. While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, initial findings suggest that the driver, a family member, may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Rescue Efforts and Victims

The injured victim, Swapnali V. Bhonsle, 30, was rescued and rushed to LifeCare Hospital in Tasgaon with severe injuries. Unfortunately, the other occupants of the car, identified as Rajendra J. Patil, 60, his wife Sujata R. Patil, 55, their daughter Priyanka A. Kharade, 30, and their three grandchildren, Dhruva (3), Rajvi (2), and Kartiki (1), lost their lives in the tragic accident.

The victims lay helpless in the darkness of the canal for several hours before a local villager spotted the wreckage and alerted the authorities. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and a crane has been called in to remove the car from the canal bed.
