A tragic incident occurred during Cyclone Remal as a firefighter, 21-year-old Rasel Hossain, was electrocuted to death while chopping up a fallen tree in Khagrachhari. The incident took place around 12:30am on Tuesday, and Rasel passed away while receiving treatment at Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital. Hailing from Basna village in Dhaka, Rasel had joined the Fire Service and Civil Defence in 2023. The fallen tree in Alutila area of Khagrachhari’s Matiranga Upazila was reported at 10pm, leading to the dispatch of a firefighting unit. Fire Service Brigadier General Md Main Uddin expressed his deepest condolences to Rasel’s family for their sudden loss.

Tragedy struck in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal as a young firefighter lost his life in a harrowing accident. The incident took place in the Alutila area of Khagrachhari’s Matiranga Upazila in the early hours of Tuesday.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as 21-year-old Rasel Hossain, was electrocuted while attempting to clear a fallen tree that had been brought down by the powerful storm. Rasel, a resident of Basna village in Dhaka’s Dhamrai, had joined the Fire Service and Civil Defence just a year prior to the tragic event.
Reports indicate that the Khagrachhari firefighting unit was alerted to the fallen tree around 10pm. As they moved in to remove the obstruction, Rasel was suddenly struck by a fatal dose of electricity. Despite being rushed to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
