Three People Electrocuted in Dhaka During Cyclone Remal

Three individuals, including a teenage girl, tragically lost their lives due to electrocution in separate incidents that occurred in the capital city on Monday night amidst the cyclone Remal.

The victims were identified as Liza Akhtar, a 16-year-old girl from Noakhali’s Charjabbar upazila, Rakib, a 25-year-old man, and Moriam Begum, a 45-year-old woman, all hailing from different areas of Dhaka.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Liza, who resided in Jatrabari area of Dhaka, was fatally electrocuted after inadvertently coming into contact with a tin structure around her house. She collapsed unconscious and despite being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries before reaching the medical facility.

Rakib met his unfortunate demise in Khilgaon’s Taltola locality while charging his battery-operated rickshaw around 11pm on that fateful night.

Similarly, Moriam Begum tragically lost her life while navigating through waterlogged Shipahibag area in Khilgaon, where she got electrocuted. Despite immediate medical attention, the doctors on duty at the hospital declared her dead upon arrival.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost inspector Bachchu Miah confirmed the distressing incidents.

It is indeed a shocking development that such tragic accidents occurred amidst the chaos and devastation caused by cyclone Remal in the city.
