Following the accusation, Selvaraj and his accomplice allegedly coerced Murugan into paying the exorbitant sum. Unable to bear the pressure and harassment any longer, the distressed labourer resorted to consuming poison at his residence on May 22.

Despite being rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamala, Murugan succumbed to the effects of the toxic substance and breathed his last on a somber Sunday. His passing sent shockwaves through the community, prompting swift action from the authorities.

Upon receiving a formal complaint from M. Valli, the grieving wife of the deceased, the Chengam police initiated a thorough investigation.
