Burkholder, 41, from Hays, was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion northbound on Interstate 135 when he rear-ended a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by Kandace L Broussard, 21, from Lincoln, Nebraska. The accident occurred when the Ford moved to the left lane to avoid traffic backed up due to an oversized load. EMS transported Burkholder, Broussard, and a passenger in the SUV to Wesley Medical Center. All three individuals were properly restrained during the accident, according to the KHP.
