According to NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden, the rideshare car was making a right turn when it was struck by the oncoming ute. Dashcam footage from the rideshare vehicle confirmed that the traffic lights were functioning at the time of the incident, and the rideshare driver had a single green light with no arrow, indicating it was safe to make the turn.

A DiDi spokesperson confirmed that the rideshare driver was using the platform at the time of the crash and expressed condolences to all those affected by the tragedy. The company pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement in their investigation into the incident.

The scene of the crash was described as “tough” by McFadden, highlighting the emotional toll such incidents take on emergency responders. Police are urging anyone with information about the collision to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
