A 32-year-old woman doctor, Saranitha, was tragically electrocuted while charging her laptop in a women’s hostel in Ayanavaram. Saranitha, originally from Namakkal district, was pursuing a post-graduate medical course in Coimbatore and had come to Chennai for a training program at the Institute of Mental Health. Her husband, also a doctor, grew concerned when she didn’t respond to calls and alerted the hostel manager. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Saranitha had come into contact with a damaged power cable, resulting in her electrocution. Ayanavaram Police are treating the incident as an unnatural death and have launched an investigation.

A 32-year-old woman doctor tragically lost her life due to electrocution while she was charging her laptop in a women’s hostel in Ayanavaram, a bustling neighbourhood in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The victim, identified as Saranitha, 32, hailing from Namakkal district, had recently completed her MBBS and was pursuing a post-graduate medical course in Coimbatore. She had arrived in Chennai on May 1 to undergo a month-long training programme at the Institute of Mental Health campus.

Saranitha was residing at a women’s hostel on K.H. Road in Ayanavaram while attending the training programme. The tragic incident occurred on a quiet Sunday, May 26, 2024, when her husband, also a doctor in Coimbatore, tried to contact her but received no response. Concerned, he reached out to the hostel manager, who then sent a female staff member to check on Saranitha.

Upon entering her room, the staff member discovered Saranitha lying motionless, with the door left ajar. Following her husband’s instructions, the manager immediately called for assistance from the 108 Ambulance service. Paramedics arriving at the scene determined that Saranitha had already succumbed to electrocution. It was revealed that she had been found on the floor holding her laptop, with charred palms suggesting that she had come into contact with a damaged power cable.

Ayanavaram Police Inspector K. Paraninadhan was informed of the incident and promptly initiated an investigation into the tragic death. The authorities suspect that the damaged laptop cable played a significant role in the electrocution, leading to the untimely demise of the young doctor. A case of unnatural death was registered by the Ayanavaram Police as they delved further into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
