Escape of Four Inmates from Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Louisiana
Authorities in Louisiana are currently on a manhunt for four inmates who managed to escape from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, located just north of the vibrant city of New Orleans. Among the escapees, three of them are homicide suspects, adding urgency to the search efforts conducted by the parish sheriff’s office.
Perimeter Fence Breach During Recreation Time
Sheriff Daniel Edwards revealed in a statement that the inmates made their daring escape during recreation time on the jail’s yard. It was discovered that they exploited a vulnerable section of the perimeter fence, allowing them to maneuver through and break free from confinement.
Identifying the Escapees
The three homicide suspects who managed to flee were identified as Omarion Hookfin, a 19-year-old from Hammond, Louisiana; Avery Guidry, also 19, hailing from Natalbany, Louisiana; and Travon Johnson, aged 21, also from Natalbany. The fourth escapee was named as Jamarcus Cyprian, aged 20, from Amity, Louisiana.
Allegations and Charges
Hookfin, Guidry, and Johnson were incarcerated for their alleged involvement in a 2022 homicide case in Hammond. On the other hand, Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapons-related charges, with additional allegations of aggravated battery during his time in Catahoula Parish.

Reports from CBS New Orleans affiliate WWL-TV indicated that the charges against Johnson, Hookfin, and Guidry stemmed from a disturbing 2022 home invasion in Hammond. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of a 33-year-old man’s life, with his 12-year-old daughter sustaining injuries that required hospitalization.
As the search intensifies for the escaped inmates, the community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to this unsettling situation.
