Telangana Rains Claim Nine Lives in Tragic Incidents

Telangana witnessed a series of unfortunate events on Sunday, with the state reporting a total of nine rain-related deaths. Among these heartbreaking incidents, two individuals lost their lives in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area, bringing the toll to 32 for the month of May. These incidents occurred just days before the anticipated onset of the monsoon season. Earlier in the month, on May 8, torrential rainfall resulted in the tragic loss of 20 lives across the state. Additionally, three individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes during heavy downpours approximately 10 days later.

Children and adults alike fell victim to the unpredictable weather conditions. A three-year-old child named Mohammed Samad met a devastating end when a brick from an adjacent shelter crashed through his family’s asbestos-roofed home, fatally striking him. In another heart-wrenching incident, a 45-year-old businessman, Mohammed Rasheed, lost his life as a brick fell on him while he sought shelter for his two-wheeler. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Rasheed succumbed to his injuries.

Tragedy struck once more when four construction workers tragically perished as an asbestos sheet and newly constructed wall collapsed on them in Nagarkurnool. This area experienced the heaviest rainfall, measuring 37.8 mm, on that fateful Sunday. The deceased were identified as B Mallesh, his daughter B Anusha, S Ramulu, and S Chennamma. Several others sustained injuries in the incident and were identified as B Nagaraju, B Raju, B Parvathamma, and V Chinna Nagulu.

According to Nagarkurnool SP Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, the property owners were in the process of setting up a poultry farm on the land. The ill-fated wall had been constructed just a day prior, with an asbestos sheet hastily added to cover it. The unfortunate workers had been employed on the farm for this specific task.

A series of freak accidents further added to the somber atmosphere. One family member tragically lost their life after a stone placed atop the asbestos sheet of a house dislodged and struck their car’s windshield, fatally injuring the driver, Venu Gopal. In a separate incident, two individuals travelling on a bike from Bommalaramaram to Shamirpet were fatally injured when a massive tree unexpectedly fell on them, claiming their lives.
