Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased in a tragic hospital fire in Delhi, which claimed the lives of at least seven newborns. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also taken cognizance of the incident and will be investigating further. The Delhi Fire Department suspects that the baby care center did not possess the necessary No-Objection Certificate (NOC). The owner of the care center is currently absconding, and an FIR has been registered against him. President Droupadi Murmu and Delhi CM Kejriwal have extended their condolences and assured of strict action in the case.

The Tragic Fire Incident at a Hospital in Delhi
On May 26, 2024, a devastating fire broke out at a hospital in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, including seven newborn babies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of the deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 would be provided to each of the injured individuals.
Response from Authorities
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, assured that the Commission has taken cognizance of the incident and a team will investigate the matter. Atul Garg, Director of the Delhi Fire Department, highlighted that the baby care centre may not have possessed a No-Objection Certificate (NOC), and the owner, Naveen Kichi, is currently absconding. An FIR has been lodged against him under sections 336 and 304A.
Details of the Tragedy
Atul Garg recounted the harrowing events of the night, stating that the fire department received a call at 11:32 pm about the fire at the baby care centre. Despite their efforts to rescue the children, a blast from oxygen cylinders caused further chaos. Garg mentioned that the fire spread to nearby buildings, prompting a larger response from the firefighters.
