Tragic Motorcycle Crash Shuts Down Interstate 24 in South Nashville
A devastating accident took place on Saturday evening in South Nashville, resulting in the closure of Interstate 24 for several hours. The incident, which claimed the life of a Texas motorcyclist, occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-24 between Bell Road and Haywood Lane.
Details of the Crash
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the victim of the crash was identified as 22-year-old Matthew Arevalo from Texas. The preliminary investigation revealed that Arevalo was sideswiped by a white vehicle while attempting to pass between cars on the highway.
The impact of the collision caused Arevalo to collide with a Mini Cooper in the adjacent lane, which was at a standstill due to traffic congestion. Tragically, Arevalo was thrown from his motorcycle, which then slid into a retaining wall and burst into flames. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Arevalo succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
