A vehicle theft in Central Park led to an arrest yesterday evening, as the Winnipeg Police Service apprehended two suspects linked to a series of crimes. The stolen vehicle, a rented 2014 Mazda CX-5, was tracked down by the victim, a 44-year-old male, to a parking lot on the 1500 block of Regent Avenue. The suspects, identified as Joseph Michael HOBAN, 38, and a 29-year-old female, were arrested without incident. HOBAN was found in possession of stolen property and identification documents. Charges have been filed against both suspects, and the investigation is ongoing. The stolen vehicle and property were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.

The Scene of the Crime

Central Park, a bustling area in Winnipeg known for its recreational activities and green spaces, was the location of a recent vehicle theft that led to the apprehension of two suspects by the Winnipeg Police Service. The incident took place in a parking lot on the 1500 block of Regent Avenue, a popular shopping district in the city.

Theft and Arrest

At around 4:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a stolen motor vehicle, a rented 2014 Mazda CX-5, by an adult male and female. The victim, a 44-year-old man, managed to track his stolen vehicle to the parking lot on Regent Avenue by 8:00 p.m. Upon locating the suspects with the vehicle, the victim promptly notified the police. However, the suspects fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

Swift Police Response

The East District General Patrol responded swiftly to the call, locating and arresting both suspects in the same parking lot without incident. Upon arrest, the male suspect was found in possession of approximately $1,300 worth of stolen property from two nearby retail stores, as well as identification documents that did not belong to him.

Charges and Detainment

The male suspect, identified as Joseph Michael HOBAN, 38, of Winnipeg, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over £5,000, Possession of Identification Document, and Theft Under £5,000 (two counts). He has been detained in custody. The female suspect, a 29-year-old woman from Winnipeg, is facing a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over £5,000. She was released by way of an Appearance Notice, as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Recovery of Stolen Items

The stolen vehicle was recovered by the police, and the stolen property was returned to its rightful owners. It has been confirmed that the suspects and the victim were not previously known to each other.
