According to Auburn deputy chief of police Timothy A. Cougle, the collision occurred as the Volkswagen attempted to turn onto South Main Street from Witham Road. Despite Carter’s attempt to swerve and avoid the collision, she was unable to prevent the impact and struck the driver’s side of the Volkswagen.

Despite wearing a helmet, Carter sustained critical injuries in the collision. Witnesses at the scene administered CPR in an attempt to save her life, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries. On the other hand, the teen driver and her mother escaped the collision with minor injuries and were not seriously harmed.
