The Teller County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress at a Woodland Park home, where 40-year-old Edgar Saenz Lopez was attempting to break in. Deputies located Lopez behind Safeway and a foot chase ensued, but he managed to escape. Despite a search throughout the night, Lopez was not found until Sunday, May 26, in Chipita Park. Teller County, located in the beautiful state of Colorado, was the scene of a dramatic incident on Friday, May 24. At approximately 6:24 p.m., the Teller County Sheriff’s Office sprang into action in response to a burglary in progress at a residence in Woodland Park, just off County Road 21. The suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Edgar Saenz Lopez, was reportedly attempting to break into a home where occupants were present.
Deputies wasted no time in arriving at the scene and immediately began their search for Lopez. The chase led them to a location behind Safeway, where a foot pursuit ensued between the law enforcement officers and the elusive suspect. Lopez managed to evade capture and disappeared into the night around the Little Gem’s Trailer Park.
Throughout the night, Woodland Park and Teller County Deputies tirelessly searched for Lopez, combing through the area in an effort to locate him. Despite their best efforts, Lopez remained at large. The Teller County Sheriff’s Office issued a public notice, alerting the community to be on the lookout for the wanted individual and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Finally, on Sunday, May 26, Lopez was apprehended in the vicinity of Chipita Park, just off Highway 24. Without incident, he was taken into custody and is now being held at the Teller County Sheriff’s Office Jail. It was revealed that Lopez is currently on parole and is wanted in Teller County for Burglary, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction.
