Chicago Memorial Day Weekend Gun Violence Leaves 25 Shot, 5 Dead

Over Memorial Day weekend, the city of Chicago was once again plagued by gun violence, with at least 25 people being shot and five losing their lives, according to police reports.

One of the tragic incidents occurred on the city’s West Side, where a 5-year-old girl, identified as Danae W. Razor, was shot to death. The shooting took place in the 200-block of Campbell Avenue in the Near West Side neighborhood. The young victim was inside a parked vehicle when she was struck in the abdomen by gunfire. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Additionally, a 24-year-old man was also injured in the same incident, sustaining a gunshot wound to the thigh. He was reported to be in stable condition following medical treatment.

Investigations Underway in West Side and Northwest Side Shootings

In a separate incident on the West Side, a 28-year-old man lost his life after being shot in the back while standing on a sidewalk. Two women, aged 18 and 28, were also wounded in the same shooting, sustaining gunshot wounds to their legs. Thankfully, their injuries were not life-threatening.

Meanwhile, on the Northwest Side of Chicago, two men, identified as Victor H. Rodriguez and Jaime I. Serrano, were fatally shot late Friday night. The shooting took place in the Albany Park neighborhood, with the victims found in an alley near Leland and Troy. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan fleeing the area, but no arrests have been made at this time.

South Side Shooting Leaves Three Men Injured

On the South Side of Chicago, three men were shot while gathered in a vacant lot in the Englewood neighborhood. The victims, aged 25, 29, and 29, sustained gunshot wounds to their arm, leg, and shoulder, respectively. Fortunately, all three men were reported to be in stable condition following the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing in all of the aforementioned shootings, with authorities working to apprehend those responsible for the senseless acts of violence.

Previous Weekend’s Statistics and Safety Measures

Comparatively, last weekend saw a similar surge in gun violence, with at least 45 individuals being shot across the city. In an effort to combat the alarming trend of violence, Mayor Brandon Johnson has rolled out a summer safety plan aimed at preventing further bloodshed.
