V Ramalingam, the Tirubhuvanam town secretary of the PMK, was brutally hacked to death on February 5, 2019. The incident sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting an extensive investigation by law enforcement agencies.
According to the NIA chargesheet, the accused individuals are believed to be affiliated with PFI/SDPI and allegedly conspired to kill Ramalingam due to his purported interference in their religious activities in the Pakku Vinayagam Thopu village in Tiruvidaimarudur.

The suspects identified by the NIA include Mohammad Ali Jinnah (34), Abdul Majith (37), Bhurkhanudeen (28), Shahul Hameed (27), and Nafeel Hassan (28), all hailing from Thanjavur. Reward Offer
