Fatal Friday: 3 killed in separate accidents in State

Three tragic incidents occurred on Friday, claiming the lives of three individuals in the State. The first incident took place in Ponda, where 19-year-old Shravan Naik from Vadiwada, Kundaim, lost his life in a self-accident on the Ponda flyover. Shravan, a student at a higher secondary school in Ponda, tragically collided with road dividers and an electricity pole after losing control of his two-wheeler.

Another fatal accident occurred at Mapa-Panchawadi, Shiroda, where Mohammad Killedar from Sanvordem was killed in a collision involving a tanker, car, and truck. Mohammad, who had been working as a mechanic for the tanker owner for two decades, lost his life in the collision. The incident also resulted in injuries to a woman named Chandravati Kaskar, who was travelling in the car involved in the accident.

The third tragedy took place at Pernem junction on NH 66 at Poroscodem, Naibag, where 54-year-old Sunita Naik of Torxem, Pernem, was run over by a truck. Sunita, who was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her husband Rajaram Naik, met with a fatal accident while they were on their way from Pernem to Patradevi.

Eye-Witness Accounts and Police Response

Eye-witnesses at the scene of the Mapa-Panchwadi accident recalled a similar tragic incident involving a schoolboy on a cycle a few years ago. The accidents were reported within half-an-hour, according to the Ponda police station. Meanwhile, the Pernem police conducted a panchanama and have registered a case against the truck driver, Pandit Naik, from Karnataka.

South Goa DySP (Traffic) Prabodh Shirvoikar, who visited the Mapa-Panchwadi accident site, highlighted the need for a speed-breaker at the sharp turn due to the narrow road. He urged the public to refrain from rash driving, adhere to traffic rules, and wear helmets to prevent fatal accidents. Additionally, a container truck carrying tyres overturned on the road at Dharbandora, fortunately resulting in no injuries, as reported by the Ponda police.
