Trinamool Congress Leader Allegedly Killed in East Midnapore

A panchayat-level Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader was tragically killed on Friday night in the East Midnapore district, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident occurred just hours before the polling for the eight Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal was set to take place.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Maibul, a well-known local TMC leader in the Mahishadal area of East Midnapore. The news of his untimely death has left many in the region in a state of disbelief and mourning.

Both the TMC and BJP have raised concerns over voter intimidation and violence, with reports of threats being made against voters and booth agents. Such incidents have only served to exacerbate the existing tensions between the two political parties.

As polling day dawned in West Bengal, reports of heightened tensions and clashes between party workers continued to surface. TMC candidate Debangshu Bhattacharya highlighted instances of voter suppression and violence, further adding to the chaotic atmosphere surrounding the elections.

Meanwhile, BJP candidate Hiran Chatterjee raised concerns over the perceived inaction of central forces and alleged interference from TMC supporters at polling booths. The situation on the ground remained tense and uncertain as voters turned out to cast their ballots in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Voter Turnout and Polling Statistics

By 9am, voter turnout in the eight Lok Sabha seats up for grabs in West Bengal stood at 16.5%, with Tamluk recording the highest turnout at 19%. In contrast, Purulia reported the lowest turnout at 12.3%, highlighting the varying levels of voter engagement across the region.

As the day progressed, the focus remained on maintaining peace and order during the polling process, with authorities working to ensure the safety and security of all voters and election officials.
