New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently made headlines for filing charges against three individuals in connection with a heinous crime involving the CPI (Maoist) in the state of Chhattisgarh. This shocking incident took place on November 1st, 2023, in the remote village of Morkhnadi, located in the picturesque Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.

On that fateful day, three innocent civilians fell victim to the brutal actions of the Maoists, who accused them of being police informants. The victims were abducted by members of the banned terrorist organization and subsequently brought before a self-styled ‘Jan Adalat’ in the dense Modemarka Forest. It was there that they were unjustly sentenced to death, marking a dark chapter in the history of the region.

NIA’s Role in the Investigation
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the National Investigation Agency took over the case in February 2024, following a directive from the central government. The Accused
After meticulous investigation and thorough scrutiny of the facts, the NIA identified three individuals as key suspects in the case. Sannu Ram Atlami, known by the alias Sunil, Suresh Katlami, also known as Kachlami, and Sanker Nureti, alias Shanker, were found to be actively involved in the nefarious activities of the Maoist outfit.
Chargesheet Filed
Subsequently, the NIA filed a chargesheet against the accused before the Special Court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. The charges leveled against them include various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), underscoring the severity of their actions.
The trio, in collusion with other members of the Maoist group, orchestrated a criminal conspiracy that resulted in the abduction and heinous murder of the innocent civilians. Their association with fronts such as the Krantikari Kishan Committee, Mahila Mukti Manch, and Revolutionary People’s Council (RPC) further attests to their deep-rooted involvement in promoting the terror agenda of the proscribed organization.
