On November 18, 2023, the Greenstone OPP Detachment responded to a report of a deceased individual near Highway 11 in Long Lake 58 First Nation. The Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 31-year-old man from Edmonton in connection with the death investigation of Kathleen Desmoulin, a 41-year-old woman from Long Lake 58 First Nation. The suspect, Gurmeet Singh Brar, was charged with Failure to Stop at Accident Resulting in Death. With the help of Canadian Border Services Agency and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Brar was arrested in Saskatchewan and brought back to Ontario for court appearance. The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
