In Ranchi, two criminals were apprehended by the police for demanding Rs 10 lakhs from a woman advocate in the name of the extremist organization, People Liberation Front of India (PLFI). The arrested individuals, Samsher Ansari and Yaiyyab Ansari, were swiftly sent to jail following their capture on Friday.

The victim, Advocate Jyoti Anand, reported the extortion attempt to the Tupudana police outpost on May 16. She had received a threatening demand for money on a PLFI letterhead via WhatsApp, accompanied by a warning that she would be shot if she did not comply. The police investigation revealed that the mobile number used for the demand belonged to Umesh Mahto of Itki, but it was stolen by Samsher during a motor accident. Subsequently, Samsher passed the phone to Taiyyab, who used it to intimidate the advocate.

The incident took place against the backdrop of Ranchi’s bustling streets, where the advocate found herself facing a grave threat to her life and livelihood. The perpetrators, driven by greed and a misguided allegiance to a violent organization, sought to exploit fear and coercion to extract money from their victim.

Advocate Jyoti Anand’s courage in standing up to these criminals and reporting the crime to the authorities is commendable. Her swift action allowed the police to track down the culprits and bring them to justice, preventing further harm to others in the community.
