The Tragic Accident in Buffalo Township: Sun Glare Blamed for Teen’s Death

Initial investigations into the tragic Friday evening crash that claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy and injured his friend in Buffalo Township are shedding light on the factors that led to the devastating incident.

The incident took place on Cole Road in Buffalo Township at 6:50 p.m. on Friday evening. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of two boys being struck by a pickup truck while riding their bicycles.

Tragically, one of the boys, identified as Dylan Tarbi, 13, of Buffalo Township, was airlifted to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh where he succumbed to his injuries at 8:22 p.m.

The other boy was taken to a local emergency department by his parents for treatment.

Buffalo Township Police Chief Tim Derringer revealed that initial evidence suggests the driver of the black pickup truck that struck the boys may not have seen them due to sun glare as he approached the top of a hill.

As of now, no charges have been filed against the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed.

Chief Derringer emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and a final determination will be made after a thorough review of all the evidence.

He added, “At this point, it appears to be a very tragic accident.”

According to Derringer, the boys were riding on the right side of the road, following the flow of traffic, and were approximately a mile away from their home, en route to a local store.

Police are currently reviewing footage from a dash camera installed in the pickup truck. There are no other known witnesses to the crash apart from the surviving boy.

The pickup driver, a resident of Buffalo Township, was found to be sober, stopped immediately after the incident, and cooperated fully with the authorities at the scene.

Derringer mentioned that Dylan Tarbi was unresponsive at the scene, while his friend was able to walk and talk before being taken to the emergency department for evaluation of minor injuries.
