The Bangladesh home minister, Asaduzzaman Khan, has revealed that his government is collaborating with India, Nepal, and the US in the investigation of the murder of parliamentarian Anwarul Azim Anar. The key suspect, businessman Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, is wanted in connection with the crime. Efforts are being made to bring him back for trial, with assistance sought from various law enforcement agencies. Shahin’s brother, Md Shahiduzzaman, mayor of Kotchandpur municipality in Bangladesh, has called for strict action against his brother if found guilty. The West Bengal Police is also planning to extradite Shahin to India, where the crime took place. Azim, a prominent figure in the Awami League, was last seen in Bidhannagar near Kolkata before his tragic death.

The ongoing probe into the murder of Bangladeshi parliamentarian Anwarul Azim Anar has taken a new turn with Bangladesh home minister Asaduzzaman Khan revealing that businessman Akhtaruzzaman Shahin is the key suspect in the case. The government of Bangladesh is actively working with India, Nepal, and the US to ensure that Shahin is brought to justice.
“We are looking for Akhtaruzzaman Shahin. He is a key suspect and wanted in connection with the murder of Anwarul Azim Anar. We have sought help from Indian, Nepal, and US law enforcement agencies to put him on trial,” said the Bangladesh home minister.
Efforts are being made to bring Shahin back to Bangladesh, with cooperation from Interpol and other relevant agencies. Three individuals, including a woman, have already been arrested in connection with the case. The authorities are also investigating the criminal backgrounds of the suspects.
Meanwhile, Shahin’s brother, Md Shahiduzzaman, who is the mayor of Kotchandpur municipality in Jhenaidah, has demanded that his brother face stern action if found guilty. Despite expressing disbelief over Shahin’s alleged involvement in the crime, Shahiduzzaman emphasized the importance of justice being served.

According to Shahiduzzaman, he last spoke to his brother two weeks ago, and Shahin seemed happy at the time. Shahiduzzaman claimed to have no knowledge of his brother’s business dealings or his relationship with the murdered MP.
The West Bengal Police have announced plans to extradite Shahin to India, as there is no extradition treaty between Bangladesh and the US. Shahin, who holds US citizenship, is believed to be in New York City.
Anwarul Azim Anar, a three-time parliamentarian from Jhenaidah-4, was the president of the Awami League’s Kaliganj sub-district unit. He was last seen on May 13, and his body was later found chopped into pieces in South 24-Parganas district.
According to sources in the West Bengal CID, Anar was first strangulated before his body was dismembered by a Bangladeshi butcher named Jihad Hawladar. Jihad, along with two accomplices, allegedly disposed of the body parts in different areas of South 24-Parganas district.
The investigation into Anwarul Azim Anar’s murder continues, with efforts being made to bring all those involved to justice. The collaboration between Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and the US highlights the commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
