The incident took place in Pune City earlier this week when a luxury car allegedly driven by a minor accused rammed into two motorcycle-borne persons, resulting in their tragic demise.

When the driver was first brought to the Police Station from the spot, the first statement which he gave in writing was that he was driving the car. However, the police initially disbelieved the driver’s statement and after a preliminary inquiry, they registered an offence against the juvenile accused as it was evident that the minor was driving the vehicle. The family of the accused minor allegedly threatened the driver to take the blame, leading to a complex web of deceit and manipulation.

Arrest of Grandfather and Family Drama

The Pune Police Crime Branch unit arrested the grandfather of the minor accused in connection with the case. The grandfather, Surendra Kumar Agarwal, was taken into custody, and a separate FIR was registered against him under IPC sections 365 and 368. The police also booked his son Vishal Agarwal in the same FIR on the complaint of the family driver, Gangadhar, who was allegedly coerced and threatened by the family to take responsibility for the crime.

Legal Proceedings and Detention

The accused minor has been detained at an observation home on the order of the Juvenile Justice Board. Initially granted bail in the case, the minor was later sent to the observation home for a period of 14 days. On the other hand, the teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, who was arrested earlier, is currently lodged in Yerawada Central Prison after being granted judicial custody for 14 days. The Pune Police commissioner confirmed that efforts were being made to try the minor accused as an adult, given the severity of the incident.
