CLAY COUNTY, Minn. (KFGO) – A man from Fargo has found himself in a bit of trouble in Clay County after a dramatic police pursuit that unfolded on State Highway 9 and eventually spilled onto I-94.

According to Sheriff Mark Empting, the incident kicked off around 1:30 pm on a Friday afternoon when a Glyndon Police officer attempted to flag down the vehicle on Highway 10. However, the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Shaun Montanari from Fargo, had other plans and decided to hit the gas, hurtling south on Highway 9 at speeds of up to 95 mph.

Things escalated further as Montanari made a daring move, veering west onto I-94 and pushing his speedometer to a staggering 120 mph. The situation took a turn when a state trooper strategically placed stop sticks near mile marker 10, eventually bringing the high-speed chase to a dramatic halt.

As the dust settled, Montanari was taken into custody on charges of felony fleeing and driving a stolen vehicle. To add to his troubles, it was revealed that he was also wanted on multiple warrants in North Dakota, painting a clearer picture of his run-ins with the law.

Fortunately, a silver lining emerged in the midst of the chaos. A female companion who was with Montanari during the pursuit was spared any charges and instead received a ride to Moorhead, marking a rare moment of leniency in an otherwise tense situation.
