AVON PARK, Florida – A Highland County resident is being hailed as a hero after a violent home invasion in this quiet neighbourhood turned deadly for the intruder. The incident occurred on Joe Hilton Street, where a 62-year-old career criminal, Lindsey Glen, met his demise at the hands of a courageous homeowner.
The evening of the incident, around 8:30 p.m., the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call regarding a suspicious incident at the residence. Upon arrival, first responders found both the elderly husband and wife severely injured, with the intruder lying lifeless inside the home.
Sheriff Paul Blackman recounted how Glen managed to gain entry into the house, possibly under the guise of needing a document notarized. The unsuspecting wife, who often provided notary services for the community, was met with a gunshot to the face by Glen as soon as he gained access.
In a moment of sheer bravery and desperation, the husband sprang into action upon witnessing his wife being shot. Armed with a seven-inch garden knife, he engaged in a fierce struggle with Glen, ultimately delivering fatal blows that resulted in the intruder’s demise before authorities could intervene.
