Kodumur (Kurnool district): A tragic incident unfolded near Kodumur town in Kurnool district, claiming the lives of two innocent children and leaving 15 others with serious injuries. The victims, identified as 13-year-old Lakshmi and 7-year-old Govardhini, were sisters who hailed from Hyderabad.

Details of the Accident

According to CI Mansuruddin, a private travels bus carrying 32 passengers, including the driver and two cleaners, was en route to Adoni from Hyderabad. At approximately 4 am, as the bus approached Pylakurthy village near Kodumur, the driver reportedly dozed off behind the wheel. In a tragic turn of events, the bus lost control and overturned near a blind curve, leading to the untimely demise of the two young girls. Additionally, 15 individuals suffered injuries, with three of them being in critical condition.

Immediate Response

Upon receiving the distress call, the police and fire department swiftly responded to the scene of the accident. The injured passengers were promptly transported to Vishwa Bharati Medical College, while those in critical condition were rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital. The lifeless bodies of the two sisters were respectfully moved to the mortuary at the government general hospital.

Investigation and Legal Action

CI Mansuruddin pointed out that the reckless driving behaviour of the bus driver was the primary cause of this devastating accident. A formal case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. Despite the driver’s culpability in the tragedy, he has not yet been apprehended by the authorities.
