Five people, including three children, tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Punjab’s Ludhiana district. The incident occurred near the Sirhind Canal in Behlolpur village when a Mahindra pick-up van carrying pilgrims rolled over and got stuck in trees. Three children drowned in the canal, while two women were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The victims have been identified, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining child’s body. The injured were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver’s momentary lapse of attention is suspected to be the cause, with an FIR being filed.

The tragic accident that claimed the lives of at least five people, including three children, occurred in Punjab’s Ludhiana district on Friday morning. The incident took place near the Sirhind Canal in Behlolpur village after the driver lost control of the Mahindra pick-up van.
Details of the Accident
The vehicle did not fall into the canal but rolled over and got stuck in the trees. Unfortunately, three children slipped into the canal and drowned. Two women were also declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The victims have been identified as Karamjit Kaur, 55, and Mahinder Kaur, 65. Divers recovered the bodies of two children who drowned in the canal — Gaganjeet Kaur, 12, and another girl who is yet to be identified. The body of the third child, Sukhpreet Singh, 7, is still missing, and divers are continuing their search.
Injured Pilgrims Rushed to Hospital
The injured individuals were quickly taken to Chamkaur Sahib Civil Hospital in the nearby Ropar district for medical treatment. A total of 18 people, including the driver, were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The pilgrims, who were from Nizampur and Danogwal villages of the Payal segment in Ludhiana, were returning after visiting Dera Vadbhag Singh in Una, Himachal Pradesh.
Suspected Cause of the Accident
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tarlochan Singh, mentioned that it is suspected that the driver may have momentarily nodded off, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. However, further investigation and the driver’s statement will be necessary to confirm the exact cause of the accident. The driver is currently receiving medical treatment, and an FIR is being registered at Machhiwara police station of Khanna police district.
