Des Moines police have recently identified the three teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a fatal crash involving a stolen car. Jamarion Jackson, 18, Eric Vortes Jr., 15, and James “JT” Taylor III, 15, were the young souls who met their untimely demise after a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, reported stolen, crashed in the heart of downtown Des Moines.

The Unfolding of Events

The ill-fated car was first spotted by a vigilant Des Moines Police detective near Ninth and Center streets. The detective closely monitored the vehicle as it navigated through the bustling streets of downtown before making its way to MacRae Park at 1021 Davis Ave. However, a marked patrol car entering behind it prompted the stolen vehicle to speed off onto Davis Avenue eastbound.

Despite the officers’ efforts, they lost sight of the speeding car. Minutes later, the stolen Hyundai was found crashed in the 600 block of Davis Avenue. Emergency medical services were immediately summoned, and lifesaving measures, including CPR, were initiated.
