WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — A disturbing incident unfolded in West Monroe, Louisiana on May 19, 2024, when the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a discharge of a firearm complaint. The situation escalated quickly as deputies arrived at the scene and discovered a male victim who had been robbed.

As per court documents, the victim had connected with a female individual, later identified as 19-year-old Makieja A. Vallaire, through an online platform a few days prior to the incident. The victim and Vallaire had exchanged phone numbers and arranged to meet in person on May 17, 2024. However, the meeting did not go as planned. The victim received a call from Vallaire on May 18, 2024, informing him that her 16-year-old female friend wanted to meet him.

When the victim met Vallaire’s friend at his residence, he noticed Vallaire, another female, and a male approaching them from a vehicle. Shockingly, the male individual brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. In a brave move, the victim managed to disarm the assailant, causing the firearm to discharge. Following this, Vallaire, her friend, and the other two individuals fled in their vehicle.

After retrieving a firearm for his protection, the victim found himself in a dangerous confrontation with the suspects. Gunfire was exchanged between the male suspect in the vehicle and the victim, leading to a chaotic scene. Despite the suspects fleeing initially, three of them returned shortly after.

Reports indicate that the suspects requested the victim’s help in freeing their stuck vehicle from the mud. In return, the victim asked for his wallet to be returned. The wallet was eventually returned just before law enforcement arrived at the location.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects had travelled from Arcadia, Louisiana to Monroe for the ill-fated meeting. The group consisted of Vallaire, 19-year-old Demetria McCune, who was apprehended at the scene, and a male juvenile who remains at large.

Prior to the incident, Vallaire’s 16-year-old friend had been misled into believing that the victim intended to engage in inappropriate activities with her. The friend was under the impression that the victim would provide monetary compensation for such actions. When the suspects arrived at the victim’s residence, Vallaire’s friend was instructed to retrieve money from the victim’s vehicle.

As Vallaire entered the victim’s vehicle, she grew uncomfortable and stepped out to speak with him outside. At that moment, the other suspects allegedly seized the victim’s wallet. The situation escalated to gunfire, with Vallaire’s friend claiming ignorance about the shooter’s identity.

Following a failed attempt to flee, the suspects returned the money and wallet to the victim in exchange for his assistance in freeing their vehicle. Subsequent investigations linked Vallaire and McCune to multiple robbery cases, with McCune also being implicated in other incidents in Ouachita Parish.
