According to initial reports from the police, two vehicles were involved in the shooting, exchanging gunfire as they travelled along the road. Tragically, the driver of a car that was not part of the altercation, later identified as 59-year-old Blaine Varner, was struck by a bullet and rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Varner succumbed to his injuries the following day, as confirmed by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
