The Pune Excise Department Cracks Down on Underage Drinking in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad

Recently, the Pune Excise Department issued an alert to approximately 2,500 pub and bar owners in Pune and the neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad region. The warning came in response to an unfortunate incident that occurred in Kalyani Nagar on May 19, involving two young IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh.

Incident in Kalyani Nagar Sparks Action

Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhiya, the victims of the tragic incident, were allegedly run over by a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche. This event has raised concerns about underage drinking and its consequences in the region.

Strict Guidelines for Bar Owners

In an effort to prevent such incidents in the future, the Pune Excise Department has put forth stringent guidelines for bar owners. These guidelines include checking age-related documents of customers, installing CCTV cameras at the main gate, and verifying Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and driving licenses to ensure compliance with legal drinking age regulations.

Fines and Punitive Actions for Violations

For establishments found serving alcohol to individuals under 25 years of age, there will be a fine of Rs 50,000 for the first violation. Subsequent violations will result in increased fines, notices to the bar owner, and ultimately, license cancellation and punitive actions.
