Man Fatally Shot During Argument in Napier Neighborhood
In a tragic incident in the Napier neighborhood of Nashville, a man was shot and killed during an argument on Thursday afternoon. The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that the shooting took place at around noon on Fain Street.
Details of the Shooting
According to police at the scene, the altercation between two men escalated in a car, resulting in one of the men pulling out a gun. The gun accidentally discharged, hitting the other man in the chest. The victim then exited the vehicle and stumbled into a nearby yard, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Suspect Arrested
The alleged shooter, identified as 30-year-old Timothy Gibbons Jr., was apprehended and charged with criminal homicide. Gibbons reportedly confessed to shooting his family friend, Alan Howard. He claimed that the incident occurred after a night of drinking, when Howard became aggressive in a friend’s vehicle.
Police Investigation
In a media release, the police stated, “Gibbons said Howard became aggressive after getting into the car and began striking him (Gibbons) with his fists and open hands. Gibbons said he pulled out his semi-automatic pistol and was chambering a round as he had his finger on the trigger. Howard was shot in the chest.”
Previous Incident on Fain Street
This unfortunate incident marks the second shooting on Fain Street within two days. Just the day before, another person was shot in the early hours, with multiple shell casings found in the area, indicating a concerning trend in the neighbourhood.
Suspect’s Bond Set
Following his arrest, a judicial commissioner set Gibbons’ bond at $75,000, as the investigation into the incident continues. The community remains on edge as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the Napier neighbourhood.
