Agartala: In the bustling city of Agartala, a tragic incident unfolded as a man was arrested for the alleged murder of a tea seller. The incident, which took a violent turn, occurred after an altercation between the two individuals.

The Altercation and Tragic Outcome

The deceased, identified as Sukhen Das, tragically lost his life after an altercation with the accused, Dipankar Sarkar. The dispute arose when Das refused to serve tea and cigarettes to Sarkar due to unpaid dues.

Reports suggest that Das sustained severe head injuries as Sarkar mercilessly attacked him with a brick. Despite being rushed to GBP Hospital in Agartala for treatment, Das succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector-in-charge, Sanjit Sen, shed light on the incident, stating that Sarkar, who was also a neighbour of the deceased, had initially been served tea and cigarettes at Das’s shop. However, when asked to settle his dues, Sarkar refused.

On May 18, the situation escalated when Sarkar returned to the shop, demanding more tea and cigarettes without clearing his outstanding balance. This led to a physical altercation, culminating in the fatal attack on Das.

Following the tragic incident, Das’s widow, Bithi Das, filed a complaint with the East Agartala police station. The authorities swiftly took action, arresting Sarkar on the same day.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigations

The police have requested the inclusion of IPC section 302 in the case, indicating the seriousness of the charges against Sarkar. Subsequently, Sarkar was presented before the court, with a plea for police remand granted for four days.
