Authorities in Kentucky have provided new details regarding the arrest of Scottie Scheffler, the top golfer in the world, as the investigation continues into the actions of the Louisville Metro Police Department during the incident.

Incident Details

The police presence in the area was related to an investigation into the death of a pedestrian who had been struck by a bus.

Official Statements

During a news conference held on Thursday, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg stated that there was no existing video footage capturing the initial interaction between the police and Scheffler. Additionally, LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel confirmed that the officer involved, Detective Bryan Gillis, did not have his body-worn camera activated at the time of the arrest.

The police department plans to release footage from the incident recorded by a fixed pole camera and the dash cam of a police vehicle.

Police Report Discrepancies

According to the police report, Detective Gillis allegedly attempted to stop Scheffler but was purportedly “dragged” by the golfer’s vehicle, resulting in hospitalization. Conflicting reports suggest that the officer may have “attached” himself to Scheffler’s car during the encounter.

The report also noted that Detective Gillis’ uniform pants were significantly damaged during the incident.

Upcoming Arraignment

Despite the legal proceedings, Scheffler is scheduled to participate in another tournament on the same day as his arrest. His arraignment is set for June 3.
