Patrick Kirby was standing on a MAX platform at Providence Park waiting for a train home from work when he felt a sudden shove from behind. The 44-year-old concession stand server found himself sprawled on the tracks below the platform with a MAX train approaching him.

The quick-thinking MAX operator of the oncoming train heroically slammed on the emergency brakes and managed to avoid hitting Kirby, who escaped with only a few scrapes and bruises from the fall.

The man accused of shoving Kirby, Michael Lynn Moreland, went on to commit a series of thefts and assaults in the area after leaving the scene. Moreland, 31, now faces charges of attempted murder, fourth-degree assault, and third-degree robbery.
