Man Sentenced to Over 30 Years for Deadly Crash in Chesapeake, Virginia

A man has been sentenced to over 30 years on Thursday for a deadly crash in 2021, Chesapeake Police Department said. Ishmell Seymore, 23, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, felony eluding, and felony hit and run.

Reckless Driving Incident on I-64 West

On July 15, 2021, Chesapeake police spotted a dark sedan driven recklessly by Seymore on I-64 West around 6:07 p.m. When police tried to stop the car Seymore sped off. While fleeing from police on Greenbriar Parkway and Crossways Boulevard in Chesapeake, Virginia, Seymore crashed into a Honda. After crashing, he ran away from the scene.

One passenger of the Honda died on the scene and the other passenger was transported to the hospital where they later died. Police said David Jones, 65, and Jennifer O’Connell, 54, were identified as the two people who died in the tragic incident.

Arrest and Sentencing

Police found and arrested Seymore in the 600 block of Jarman Road in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was sentenced to 60 years with 15 suspended for two counts of second-degree murder and five years with four suspended for eluding police. He pleaded guilty to all charges in January.
