The stolen vehicle eventually entered McRae Park from Southwest Ninth Street, setting off a chain of events that would end in tragedy. A marked patrol vehicle attempted to intercept the Hyundai in the park, but the driver took evasive action, driving off the roadway and speeding eastbound on Davis Avenue.

Despite the dangerous manoeuvre, officers on the scene made the decision not to pursue the stolen vehicle as it continued to flee from law enforcement. The situation took a grim turn when the Hyundai crashed in the 600 block of Davis Avenue at 12:49 p.m., leaving one person dead at the scene and three others with critical injuries.

Heartbreaking Loss for Families

The Des Moines Police Department confirmed on Thursday that two of the three individuals initially injured in the crash have succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to three. While the authorities have not released the names of the deceased, they have disclosed that the victims were an 18-year-old male and two 15-year-old males. The remaining survivor, an 18-year-old male, is still receiving medical treatment in hospital.
