A judge in Karnataka has called for a police investigation after discovering that a 23-year-old man appointed as a ‘jawan’ (servant) at Yadgir District and Sessions Court was unable to read and write, despite securing an impressive 99.52 per cent in his Class 10 board examination.
The directive from the judge led to the registration of a case in April against the D group staff member, Prabhu Lokare, a resident of Koppal. Lokare, who was selected for the Jawan position based on the requirement of a Class 10 pass, has now come under scrutiny for his academic achievements.
According to the police, Lokare completed Class 7 before directly applying for Class 10 in 2017. In the 2018 board examination, he managed to secure an outstanding 623 marks out of 625. However, what is most shocking is that Lokare allegedly lacks the ability to read or write in English or Kannada, raising questions about the validity of his academic performance.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed in this case stated, “If someone doesn’t have the ability to achieve such high marks, it is unfair to the students of the state who are unable to compete with such individuals.” The judge has requested an investigation into whether Lokare received assistance in obtaining his impressive exam results.
In response to the allegations of illiteracy, Lokare defended himself by stating that he cleared his Class 10 examination through the Delhi Education Board, not the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board. “I know how to read and write. I wrote my examination in 2017-18 through the Delhi Education Board. The marks card is not from the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board, which conducts public examinations for Class 10 in Karnataka. There have been others who have secured court positions after passing from the same board,” Lokare explained.
